Chris Allegrettadc57bba2001-10-26 16:14:45 +0000110/26/2001 - GNU nano 1.1.3 is released. As far as new features go,
2 the help system is now available for all functions in the
3 editor. Also, nano will also now print a message on
4 the status bar when it automatically converts a file from
5 Mac or DOS format, and trying to load a file that
6 has already been loaded in multibuffer mode will now also
7 cause an error message. There is now a "goto previous
8 word" which you can use by hitting Meta-Space Bar.
9 As for fixes, a SEVERE bug in the
10 null_at code which discarded the memory address of
11 reallocated memory has been fixed. This is probably
12 the biggest bug fix in well over the last year of
13 development. There are also some display fixes for when
14 the screen shouldn't center itself on cut or uncut text.
15 Also, the comments in the header files incorectly said
16 that nano was distributed under version 1 of the GPL when
17 the accompanying license was the GPLv2.
18 If you're using nano-1.1, it is highly
19 recommeneded you upgrade to this release. If using 1.0,
20 wait for version 1.0.6 which should be available early
21 next week. Enjoy!
22
Chris Allegretta03260b42001-10-04 01:24:07 +00002310/03/2001 - GNU nano 1.1.2 is out there. Many new features in this
24 release, including support for auto-converting from
25 DOS and Mac formatted files, as well as toggles for
26 writing out files in these formats. Pico's -o flag has
27 been implemented, as has some new smooth scrolling code
28 (which can be used in place of the default jerky scrolling
29 behavior). Also, there is now a "find matching
30 bracket/brace/etc" feature (Meta-]). The .nanorc file
31 now accepts setting the tabsize, and the help text at the
32 bottom of the editor is now better spaced out in the
33 search/replace prompts. There are also the usual helping
34 of bugfixes, translation updates and, surely a bug or two.
35 You better get ready!
36
Chris Allegretta0e8c8d82001-07-29 01:16:27 +00003707/28/2001 - GNU nano 1.1.1 is released. Our second 1.1 unstable release
38 features many bugfixes from the initial release, in
39 particular fixs for the multibuffer code, and various
40 compiler macro fixes. The shortcut lists for
41 the search and replace prompts are a little more logical
42 (with cancel the last option again), and the included
43 gettext was re-downgraded to 0.10.35 due to problems
44 on the PPC platform. GNU nano now includes its own
45 aclocal macros in the m4/ directory to allow rebuilding
46 the configure script to work on platforms regardless of
47 their gettext version.
48
Chris Allegretta9a748602001-07-15 16:07:23 +00004907/15/2001 - GNU nano 1.1.0 is released. This is the first release
50 in the 1.1.x unstable series of GNU nano. It
51 incorporates all changes up to the 1.0.3 release,
52 and also includes many many new features, including
53 appending to as well as overwriting files, writing
54 marked text to a separate file, dynamic wrap length,
55 lots more compatibility with Pico, and new optional
56 features like .nanorc file support and multiple file
57 buffers! All in all, plenty of new stuff that's sure
58 to introduce lots of bugs ;-) Have fun with it, but
59 be careful, unstable means unstable.
60
Chris Allegretta38068cd2001-04-06 20:04:23 +00006104/06/2001 - GNU nano 1.0.1 is out there. The only new feature is a
62 configure option for those who want to disable all
63 word wrapping from nano, --disable-wrapping. Bug fixes
64 this release include some bugs with autoconf and i18n,
65 and several fixes in the file browser including a
66 segfault on Solaris, symlinks to directories now work
67 properly, and nano now sorts files case insensitively
68 like pilot. Have fun with it.
69
Chris Allegretta2bfbda02001-03-23 03:50:44 +00007003/22/2001 - GNU Nano 1.0 is released! The autoindent wrapping bug
Chris Allegretta4aa302f2001-03-18 18:50:04 +000071 has been fixed, as well as strange bug when using Pico
72 mode and regex search. There have also been some minor
73 spelling and documentation updates. As stated on the
74 website, there are currently no known bugs with nano, but
75 some will pop up eventually and they will be addressed in
76 subsequent releases. We hope you enjoy this first stable
77 release of nano, and as always, feedback is welcome!

79
Chris Allegrettaf4a98642001-02-19 05:28:00 +00008002/19/2001 - Nano 0.9.99pre3 brings a lot of changes! The most important
81 being that nano is now officially a GNU program. Some
82 changes have been made for GNU compatibility (like the
83 default list of shortcuts, "^G Get Help" is now Listed and
84 "^_ Goto Line" is not). The Yes/No/All keys have
85 finally been internationalized also. All in all, quite
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +000086 a few changes, considering nano is supposed to be in a code
87 freeze. But there are the usual helping of bugfixes, a
Chris Allegrettaf4a98642001-02-19 05:28:00 +000088 nasty bug when cutting text in -k mode and some
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +000089 compatibility issues with older ncurses libraries have also
90 been fixed. All in all, a lot to see.
Chris Allegrettaf4a98642001-02-19 05:28:00 +000091
Chris Allegretta90e04042001-01-31 18:01:24 +00009201/31/2001 - Nano 0.9.99pre2 is released. Not surprisingly, all that is
93 new is bugfixes, bugfixes, bugfixes. There were a few
94 cleanups in unneeded global variables and duplicate
95 functions, but most is just fixing. Specifically, there
96 is now a preliminary (read: needs testing) fix for
97 resizing the editor in any mode other than normal edit
98 mode. Other fixes include some more tab completion
99 segfaults, and an silly segfault that occurred when
100 successfully writing a file on the 2nd try (i.e. after an
101 initial write error). Slowly but surely, on toward 1.0 we
102 travel.
103
Chris Allegretta9d6f3f32001-01-21 02:35:03 +000010401/17/2001 - Nano 0.9.99pre1 is released. This is the first pre-1.0
Chris Allegretta9faa3f12001-01-18 04:37:09 +0000105 release of nano, and is also the first release since the
106 code freeze for nano 1.0. Don't expect (or request) any
107 new features between now and nano 1.0, only bugfixes,
108 optimizations and doc/translation updates. For fixes, a
109 nasty segfault when trying to insert one's home directory
110 (~), some checks for the NumLock key making the keypad
111 go awry, window size sanity checks, many autoconf fixes,
112 and support for the KDE konsole keypad layout. Have fun.
113
Chris Allegretta16991442001-01-07 22:06:11 +000011401/07/2001 - Nano 0.9.25 is the "Just one more feature I swear!" release.
115 It includes one new feature that Pico has had forever, a
116 built-in file browser. Since not everyone may want this
117 option, there is a --disable-browser option to the
118 configure script as well. Other changes include slightly
119 different keypad handling, and a bugfix for crashes when
120 tab completion in certain instances. Have fun and Happy
121 New Year!
122
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +000012312/18/2000 - Nano 0.9.24 is released. This version contains the last of
Chris Allegretta66149e72000-12-19 02:51:06 +0000124 the security fixes for writing files, as well as for a
125 nasty segfault when nano is unable to open a file for
126 reading, among other fixes. Nano also now cowardly
127 refuses to open device files, to stop silly things like
128 trying to open /dev/zero. New features include being
129 Able to use Meta-Meta-<key> as Control-<key>, better
130 HURD support, and some new flags have been added for Pico
131 compatibility. Upgrading to this version is highly
132 recommended.
133
Chris Allegretta88167602000-12-09 00:07:06 +000013412/08/2000 - Nano 0.9.23 is the "race conditions bite" release. The
135 main reason for this release is the less-than-optimal
136 fix for the security issue in nano with following symbolic
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000137 links. Hopefully this will fix the problem permanently.
Chris Allegretta88167602000-12-09 00:07:06 +0000138 The --nofollow option also works again for those who
139 are real security nuts. There are also some display and
140 search fixes, and the --disable-spell function was renamed
141 to --disable-speller to be in line with nano and pico's
142 "speller" term.
143
Chris Allegrettaac139dd2000-12-02 21:31:17 +000014412/02/2000 - Nano 0.9.22 is released, with many more changes and
145 additions than imaginable. The most important change is
146 a fix for unsafe handling of symbolic links which could
147 lead to symlink attacks if nano were to exit because
148 of an error or signal. Also there are better checks when
149 saving files.
150 As for new features, username tab completion is
151 now working well, the internal spell checker code has been
152 tweaked, you can now unjustify if you don't like how the
153 justify formatted your text, and there are more
154 options for configure, including --disable-spell and
Chris Allegretta9ee2a0d2000-12-02 21:50:57 +0000155 --disable-justify and --enable-extra (for those who like
156 surprises). All in all, a whole lot of changes in
Chris Allegrettaac139dd2000-12-02 21:31:17 +0000157 a little over a week.
158
Chris Allegretta71366cd2000-11-23 21:04:27 +000015911/23/2000 - Happy Thanksgiving! Nano 0.9.21 is our "last version was
160 a big turkey" release. It fixes several bugs introduced
161 by the previous version, as well as a few long-
162 standing display bugs. All 0.9.20 users are strongly
163 encouraged to upgrade to this release.
164
16511/18/2000 - Nano 0.9.20 is finally out the door. Probably the biggest
Chris Allegretta44b52ca2000-11-18 16:46:14 +0000166 change is the brand new way nano displays previous search
167 and replace strings (they are now editable!) This is a
168 break from Pico's (inconsistent) interface, so if you
169 don't like the new way, "Pico" mode (-p on the command
170 line or Meta-P within nano) still works the "old"
171 way.
172 Other new features include being able to deal with
173 search strings of any length, a new internal spell feature
174 (courtesy of Mr. Rocco Corsi) and tab completion when
175 reading in or writing out files! There's also the usual
176 billion or so bug fixes. Feedback on this release is
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000177 welcome because so much has changed, especially with the
178 previous string display in search and replace. Email ->
179 nano@nano-editor.org <-. If you like something, don't like
180 something, or just want to order a pizza, let us know!
Chris Allegretta44b52ca2000-11-18 16:46:14 +0000181
Chris Allegretta07e97d62000-10-03 01:52:50 +000018210/02/2000 - Nano 0.9.19 is the "Chris is getting married in less than
183 a week and needs a distraction" release. There are only
184 a few actual code changes, mainly portability and compiler
185 warning fixes. Nano now also supports PDCurses, which
186 enables easily-built nano executables for Windows NT
187 and 95/98 for the brave. The official nano site has
188 changed (again) as well, check out www.nano-editor.org for
189 all the latest nano schtuff.
190
Chris Allegretta629edad2000-09-19 00:27:19 +000019109/18/2000 - Nano 0.9.18 is unleashed. It has some new keyboard
192 handling code, cygwin support out of the box, and
193 a more portable handler for the NOHELP toggle. There
194 is also a fix for a somewhat serious bug whereby trying
195 to insert a directory instead of a normal file would
196 destroy the contents of the editor. A must-see. Four
197 stars.
198
Chris Allegretta423cbfd2000-09-04 16:21:29 +000019909/04/2000 - Nano 0.9.17, the Labor Day release, is released after a
200 quiet spell (almost an entire month since last release!)
201 New features include better (not yet perfect) binary
202 display support and toggle support for most of the program
203 flags (M-c, M-i, M-z, M-x, M-p, M-w, M-m, M-k and M-e for
204 -c, -i, -x, -p, -w, -k, and -R).
205
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +000020608/09/2000 - Nano 0.9.16, after some struggling, is released. This release
Chris Allegrettaba96f7a2000-08-09 21:38:28 +0000207 should fix a few of the holes that 0.9.15 dug. The
208 "cutting text on the first line" bug is fixed, as is the
209 "cutting text on the last line" bug. Nice symmetry there
210 huh? Also the --tabsize argument should now work as well
211 as by using -T.
212
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +000021308/03/2000 - Nano 0.9.15 is the "I can't think of a release description"
Chris Allegretta0bf4e142000-08-04 02:42:04 +0000214 release. There are the usual gala of display bugfixes,
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000215 a fix for the the nasty bug in -k mode that could create a
Chris Allegretta0bf4e142000-08-04 02:42:04 +0000216 loop in the file being edited, and some other code
217 cleanup. Also, the -T option should now work regardless
218 of the curses library used. Yay.
219
Chris Allegrettaa1a55c72000-07-28 00:36:03 +000022007/27/2000 - Nano 0.9.14 is officially the "13 is so unlucky it should
221 be skipped as a version number" release. One typo
222 caused unending problems (calling nano with either -t or
223 -k caused both flags to be used). The -k code is also now
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000224 closer in functionality to Pico's -k mode; please
Chris Allegrettaa1a55c72000-07-28 00:36:03 +0000225 note that this code is not finished yet. Working on this
226 code has made me realize that there is not enough
227 abstraction in the code, and I will be working on that
228 for the next release. Until then, have fun with this
229 version.
230
Chris Allegrettaedebbe62000-07-23 16:45:20 +000023107/23/2000 - Nano 0.9.13 has a few new bits and bobs, most notably the
Chris Allegretta231d3d62000-07-22 19:33:19 +0000232 -k option from Pico (cut to end of line). The majority
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000233 of changes in this release are bugfixes, however, including
Chris Allegretta231d3d62000-07-22 19:33:19 +0000234 the usual display fixes and fixes for writing to symbolic
235 links and un-writeable files. Barring any other major
236 changes, this should be the feature set for nano 1.0,
237 whenever it might be released =-)
238
Chris Allegrettae955dae2000-07-07 22:24:59 +000023907/07/2000 - Nano 0.9.12 (The "lucky day" release) is bursting with new
240 features, bug fixes, and yummy fruit flavor. For
241 changes, the alternate replace keystroke ^W^T is now
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000242 ^W^R to be compatible with later versions of Pico.
Chris Allegrettae955dae2000-07-07 22:24:59 +0000243 ^W^T is now goto line, again for Pico compatibility.
244 As for new features, the wonderful/hated magic line
245 code has returned with a vengeance! Also, regular
246 expression searches and replaces have been incorporated
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000247 via the -R flag. And, of course, there are the usual
Chris Allegrettae955dae2000-07-07 22:24:59 +0000248 helping of display and other bug fixes to top it all
249 off.
250
Chris Allegretta4da1fc62000-06-21 03:00:43 +000025106/20/2000 - Nano 0.9.11 presents drastic rewrites of the most buggy
Chris Allegretta37985882000-06-20 00:39:20 +0000252 routines in the program, specifically the wrapping code
253 and almost all of the display routines. There are many
254 improvements and bugfixes to the display subsystem in
255 general, but there may be bugs lurking yet. Also, after
256 many MANY requests, there is now an option to set the
257 displayed tab width (-T, --tabsize). Note that
258 this function just changes the way tabs LOOK in the
259 editor, the tabs you input are still real tabs of normal
260 width (usually 8 characters); nano just makes them look
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000261 smaller or bigger while in the editor. New in the
262 translation department is an Indonesian translation (id).
Chris Allegretta37985882000-06-20 00:39:20 +0000263
Chris Allegretta2b26e0a2000-06-07 04:02:06 +000026406/06/2000 - Nano 0.9.10 is primarily a bugfix for the loss of SIGINT when
265 using "run and terminate" flags (for example, --help).
266 There are also some minor documentation updates. This
267 version of nano is the most stable in quite some time, and
268 is likely to be the most stable for awhile. Users are
269 encouraged to upgrade to this version.
270
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +000027105/31/2000 - Nano 0.9.9 introduces much better working i18n support,
272 more portability, and a ton of bugfixes. While
273 nano is not likely anywhere near 1.0 in terms of
274 code quality, it gets a quantum leap closer with this
275 release.
276
27705/18/2000 - Nano 0.9.8 (the 'what broke now?' release) should fix
278 the resize crash people have been experiencing. It also
279 offers a new input method that should allow nano to do
280 things the right way (like ^S, ^Q, custom suspend keys)
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000281 and hopefully won't break with non-US keyboards. There
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000282 are also the obligatory display fixes and speedups. Have
283 fun with it.
284
28505/14/2000 - Nano 0.9.7 (the Mother's Day release) continues in the long
286 line of display fixes, and also fixes the broken symlink
287 behavior (i.e. symlinks weren't being followed by
288 default). Hopefully all major bugs can be worked out soon
289 and we can have a 1.0 release before the end of the year,
290 but who knows.
291
29205/08/2000 - Nano 0.9.6 cleans up a lot of the display bugs that 0.9.5
293 uncovered. There are improvements (and some remaining
294 segfaults) in the wrapping code, and even more
295 display optimizations. I would still say 0.9.4 or 0.9.2
296 are the most stable versions of nano to date, but this one
297 may not be too bad =-)
298
29905/01/2000 - Nano 0.9.5 attempts to speed up the display of text
300 to be at least somewhat reasonable. Much
301 code profiling has been done to reduce the
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000302 ridiculous number of redundant display updates. This
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000303 will probably expose a lot of bugs that can then be
304 fixed, so this release is probably not for the faint
305 of heart. For anyone curious, I would call nano 0.9.2
306 the most stable version recently, so use that if you're
307 not particularly concerned with being on the bleeding
308 edge.
309
31004/25/2000 - Nano 0.9.4 fixes some problems in 0.9.3 with the last
311 line code and related segfaults. It also now has
312 much better handling for 8-bit characters. The
313 --enable-tiny code also produces a smaller executable.
314
31504/19/2000 - Nano 0.9.3 is officially the "Micro$oft" release. It
316 underscores the recent problem of bugfixes introducing
317 more bugs than they fix. The most important change
318 to this version of nano is the removal of the "magic
319 line". You will no longer see a blank line at the end of
320 the file. If you want a new line at the end of your file,
321 you'll have to hit enter to get one.
322
323 NOTE: THIS BREAKS COMPATIBILITY WITH PICO. Unfortunately,
324 this feature has been causing many many problems with nano
325 so it is being removed for the time being, and perhaps
326 indefinitely.
327
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000328 Other new stuff includes an --enable-tiny option to make
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000329 nano ultra small (disabling i18n, detailed help and the
330 marker and mouse code), and --with-slang to use the
331 slang libraries instead of ncurses.
332
33304/15/2000 - Nano 0.9.2 just fixes the serious segfault problem if
334 nano is invoked any way other than using the absolute
335 path. The bug was in the new code for checking whether
336 nano is invoked as pico.
337
33804/14/2000 - 0.9.1 has some more Pico compatibility built-in. The
339 option to switch to/from Search and Search/Replace
340 (^T) is now available, and nano now displays the
341 more Pico-like shortcut list when invoked as 'pico'
342 (i.e. if pico is a symlink to nano). There is an
343 important change to the handling of symbolic links
344 as well. Now, nano does the "correct" thing and
345 automatically writes to the object of the symlink,
346 rather than replace the symlink with the updated file.
347 This behavior is still available with the --nofollow
348 or -l flags.
349 Other new things include a fix for the infamous
350 "recursive replace" bug, and more bugfixes in the wrapping
351 code.
352
35304/07/2000 - Nano 0.9.0 has some updates, new language support and
354 a much better refresh setup (It's still not great, but...)
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000355 There should also be more stability editing long lines,
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000356 as there was a stupid mistake in the update_line
357 call. Silly me =)
358
35903/22/2000 - Nano 0.8.9 is basically just a bugfix release of 0.8.8
360 to reflect the current stagnant status of the project.
361 Most things work, the rest doesn't doesn't work because
362 (a) I can't fix it or I would have already done so, and
363 (b) the amount of patches I'm receiving right now is quite
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000364 negligible. Fortunately, this release marks the first
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000365 release since I have acquired ownership of the nano pages
366 on SourceForge. Here's hoping SF will get us some more
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000367 visibility, translators and patches.
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000368
36903/12/2000 - After a hiatus, I have finally moved (not unpacked though)
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000370 to my new home into Albany. Thus I should now have more
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000371 time to work on nano. Nano 0.8.8, the "dear god what
372 broke this time?" release, incorporates patches for both
373 i18n and many bugfixes. It is VERY likely something broke
374 this version, and it's likely I didn't even apply the i18n
375 stuff properly, so *it* may not even work.
376
377 I would like to announce that I'm going to need
378 translations soonish, so if you are fluent in other
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000379 languages than English (or even better, if your native
380 language is not English) and you would like to submit a
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000381 translation file to me, please feel free to do so. If you
382 do, I will list your name and email in the AUTHORS file as
383 the maintainer of the .po file, and from then on it is
384 yours to take care of and keep up to date.
385
38603/01/2000 - Well, to continue my trend of going back on my previous
387 release's comments, nano 0.8.7 is released. The crashing
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000388 behavior was still occurring, and this most recent fix also
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000389 fixes some other wrapping problems, so here you go.
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000390 There may be another release soon, there may not be, is
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000391 that vague enough? =)
392
39302/25/2000 - More minor bugfixes in 0.8.6, the bizarre behavior at the end
394 of a page has ceased, thankfully. I'm also moving next
395 weekend, so don't be shocked if you don't see a new
396 version of nano next week =-)
397
39802/11/2000 - Okay, here we go again. Aside from a few minor fixes and
399 some under-the-hood changes, you won't notice much
400 different in this version of nano. I haven't gotten much
401 feedback on the help feature, is it simply amazing or does
402 no one care? Write and let me know! =)
403
40402/08/2000 - Nano 0.8.3 marks the first time in a long time that there has
405 been more than three days since the last release. New
406 features include an initial help mode (YAY!), hopefully
407 much more support for i18n out of the box, and a flag
408 for more Pico compatibility in the shortcut lists
409 displayed. This release also marks the new nano
410 distribution site, http://www.asty.org/nano and email
411 address nano@asty.org for bugs, etc.
412
41302/02/2000 - Okay, I hate to go back on what I said in the last release,
414 but I may be changing jobs very soon. I will release
415 version 0.8.2 as is (no i18n, no help menu (yet). I
416 expect things to settle down by the end of next week, and
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000417 then I can try to start on the i18n support and help menu;
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000418 look for these new features in version 0.8.5 to 0.9.0.
419
42001/28/2000 - Nano 0.8.1 marks our first official step toward
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000421 internationalization (i18n) and the help system (^G). I
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000422 will be merging in Jordi's patches for initial i18n in the
423 next version, and will implement the help system with
424 i18n built into it shortly after that. Please don't
425 hesitate to send bug reports, as long as you're sure the
426 fault lies with nano =-).
427
42801/25/2000 - Nano 0.8.0 is officially the 'let's try and be at least a
429 little portable, mmmmkay?' release. There are many
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000430 portability checks and fixes; many thanks to Andy Kahn for
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000431 his patches. I removed the broken do_spell behavior with
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000432 the 'spell' program; for now, we only try to call 'ispell'
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000433 until I write a better method to handle the output of the
434 normal 'spell' command.
435
43601/24/2000 - Nano 0.7.9 features many new features. Among them are a
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000437 new autoindent feature (-i, --autoindent), tempfile
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000438 flag like Pico's -t flag (-t, --tempfile), and preliminary
439 spelling program support. The spelling function tries
440 to run 'spell' and then 'ispell' in that order, but you
441 can specify another spelling program with -s or --speller.
442
44301/17/00 - Nano 0.7.7 is officially the 'way too much stuff changed this
444 release' release. It's the busy time at work for me, so
445 please don't get offended if your patch doesn't get
446 included in the next immediate version of nano. I'm sure
447 all the changes in this release will cause a few bugs, so
448 0.7.8 will primarily be about fixing those bugs.
449
Chris Allegretta88520c92001-05-05 17:45:54 +0000450 Things added this release include resizability (kinda),
Chris Allegrettaa2ea1932000-06-06 05:53:49 +0000451 new -x and -c flags (see nano -h for help), long command
452 line flag support, and the usual array of bugfixes.
453
45401/15/00 - Nano 0.7.6 is officially the 'lightning' release. It now loads
455 large files much faster than previous versions, and is
456 even much faster than Pico or vi in some rather
457 rudimentary tests. Many thanks to Adam Rogoyski for the
458 read_byte patch!
459
46001/09/00 - As of this version (0.7.4), TIP has officially been renamed
461 to nano. The new homepage is at
462 http://faculty.plattsburgh.edu/astyanax/nano. Please
463 update your bookmarks, tell your friends, and all that
464 jazz.
